The photos

"The photos! The photos! The photos! The photos! ...Were there photos found in a safe?"

Nancy Grace, a brittle blonde newscaster on CNN, hollered that in her adenoidal Southern accent over the speech of an attorney representing a 17-year-old girl who burned down her house, killing her little sister and another little boy. At the time Nancy shouted at him, the attorney, appearing via live video feed, was attempting to describe the details of the case, but he wasn't addressing the point Nancy wanted addressed, which is: had the police found naked photos of the girl in her step-father's safe? The attorney looked momentarily startled, then went on to explain that yes, there had been photos found. "How many photos?" demanded Nancy. He answered, "Sixty-five." "Sixty-five!" she repeated, appalled but gratified.

"Can you imagine... your father having pictures of you and him having sex, locked in a safe?" she said, narrowing her eyes in moral indignation.

Then, she signed off, saying she hoped to see us there tomorrow night, but before the show ended, she added, "Last night I forgot to tell you something... Happy birthday, Daddy."
