Maybe it's the weather, or something like that

Sunshine, gently swaying palm trees, and warm January afternoons wouldn't necessarily make me homesick for Boston, but today I find myself missing my old hometown. I walked around today wishing for buildings more than forty years old, some sense of history, some hint that there's more on the menu than what's immediately apparent.

Part of my nostalgia is due to spending time with a bunch of friends from Boston over the weekend, in celebration of our friend Daniel's birthday. Following dim-sum for brunch, he had scheduled an impressive line-up of movies including "Son of Kong," "Blood on the Moon," and the most startling sci-fi porn short ever created (I think), Abducted by the Daleks. I'm just going to go ahead and recommend that last one even though it has zero redeeming qualities, because I found the absence of plot, dialogue and actual pornographic content refreshingly bold. I don't know where Daniel got the film, but I'm guessing Netflix was not involved.

Adding to my Boston craving today was my dear friend Jacques, who found a site devoted to the late, great Boston band the Neighborhoods and posted about it on his own site. Jacques, though Parisian, knows more about Boston garage bands than anyone I ever knew in Boston, and carries on correspondence with some of them, which he shares from time to time. He mentions me in his post, beause for years I've been telling him how great the Neighborhoods were, and how much I love their song "Prettiest Girl," and practically consider it (with ludicrous and wholly unwarranted self-pity) my theme song. Jacques' nickname for me is Ms. Xqwizite, and I love when he quotes me because a) I am self-involved, and b) he manages to make me sound like I am at least fifteen years younger than I am, via words like "kewl."

And that is about all the news today. It really isn't very interesting, but I can't think what's wrong with me.

Oh, yes, that's right: I'm hungover.

KEWL!!!
